I am knitting a hat but not using any pattern, my question is about the decreases. I have 90 stitches total, 45 on each needle. If I start decreasing I would decrease every 9th stitch . then a plain row, then every 8th stitches and so on. Am I right?
Question about hat decreases
Sounds right. For the first round of decreases I might place markers after every 9th st and decrease the two sts before the marker, then just continue as you said. It saves counting and I am horrible at counting.
Thanks for the reply I will do that This is the first time I did not use a pattern even as a reference
Since you have a number divisible by 9 your choice to decrease the 9th st makes sense. I just always screw up on counting. You don’t need markers unless you lose count like me. lol
I ended up putting markers after every 9th stitch and found I had two extra stitches on one side so I knitted two together on one round and again on another round. I am just starting the hat part after the ribbing.
Aren’t you glad you found out sooner rather than later? Much easier to adjust stitch count before you’re well into decreasing.
Yes I was glad I found out took care of both stitches by decreasing 1 on one round and the other one on the next rond
