Question about a pattern

I am working on http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/50718.html?noImages= and it is REALLY going very well. One question…once I finish the increases, it says work until piece measures 8 (10) in 44 (48) sts… does that mean work it until its 8 or 10 inches OR 44 to 48 rows?

Thanks!

well, first–it’s not 8 to 10 inches or 44 to 48 inches–it’s 8 or 10 and 44 or 48 depending on the size you’ve chosen to knit…

second–doesn’t it say 44(48) sts? I haven’t looked at the pattern but I’d take that to mean you knit 8 or 10 inches long (depending on the size you’ve decided to knit) keeping w/ either 44 or 48 (again, depending on size) sts wide…

That’s just my thoughts w/o looking at it…hope this helps…

Ahhh, that makes sense!!! thanks!

Depending on what size you are making, you incr until 8 or 10 inches at which spot you shoul have 44 or 48 stitches…

Thanks! I understand now. If you look at the pattern (I am ALMOST at 10 inches in length and have my 44 stitches) it says

Shape armholes
Row 1 K1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1
Row 2 Purl.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 thirteen (14) times more. Place rem 16 (18) sts on holder.

Does that mean after I reach my 10 inches, the VERY next row, I will start with these instructions? I’m just trying to make sure I don’t have to take this piece off yet…

Thanks! You guys are great!

That is exactly what you do, start dec the next row after you reach ten inche s. Good luck! Tillie

Thanks!! Ok, now I am at this point
Shape armholes:
Dec row
Row 1 K1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1–32 (34) sts.
Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (WS) Purl.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 ONCE MORE–30 (32) sts
Next row and every odd-numbered row (RS) K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Rep this RS
row and purl WS row fourteen times–16 (18 ) sts. Purl 1 row and place sts on
stitch holder.

…can you tell me if I am understanding what I am supposed to be doing???

I do exactly what is says for row one and row two…
then it says repeat row one and row two (am I supposed to have 30 or 32 stitches
on my needles depending on my size??? after I finish this step?)
Then it says every odd row, do I no longer have to ssk since it’s not in this
set of instructions??? and when I am finished with these steps I should have
either 16 or 18 stitches on my needles depending on the size???

No, you DO need to do the ssk (this is row 1 in the directions). This will make the decrease even more prounounced as you are now doing it every row.

Yes

YAY! Thanks so much Heather!!! :muah: :muah: :muah: I can’t wait to start on it…lol, as soon as I get to work! LOL I will post my progress…

Thanks again.

No, you don’t do the ssk. Because if you’re starting with 30/32 sts and dec 2 sts (ssk and k2tog) for 14 times you’d end up with 2 or 4 sts. Do only the k2tog - the instructions plainly say to knit the row until the last 3 sts.

ETA: Also, you won’t be doing the decrease on every row, just on the odd numbered rows; continue to purl on the even rows.
