Purse grenade

I found a pattern for a purse grenade and I was wondering if you guys thought it sounds difficult??? I know there are stitches that have to be picked up along the way and I have never done that. Is that hard to learn??? Check it out !!! Thanks

Knitting–a radical art? Cool.

It sounds like a straightforward pattern. You can see how to pick up stitches here. A very common technique.

OK… The video and the instructions are confusing me with picking up stitches… Where it says on the pattern :

The Top

Pick up 30 sts along the 32nd row of the grenade body. Do this by starting and finishing 5sts in.

Would you pick up the stitches width wise (like from left to right <-- -->)?

OR would you pick them up length wise (top to bottom)?

I just don’t know where to start and where to place my needle.

Oh and what does starting and finishing 5sts in mean ???

Thanks alot !!!

I think it will be easier to envision when you actually have it in front of you, but in the first section you do the box stitch, and then you decrease and bind off. Across ( <------->) the 32nd row, which is the last row of the box stitch, you pick up 30 of the 40 stitches on the needle, starting 5 stitches in from one side and ending 5 stitches in from the other side–centered, in other words.

Thank you so much!!! I’m probably making it sound harder than it really is… I do that… ALOT… lol. After I get done working on my drawstring bag I’m gonna attempt the grenade… So, more questions are probably to come :roflhard:
THanks a bunch!!

Ok here we go again !!! I just did the :

The Top

Pick up 30 sts along the 32nd row of the grenade body. Do this by starting and finishing 5sts in.

Commence in gunmetal grey.

1st row k.

2nd row p.

Rep these rows 3 times, dec 1 st at each end of p row.

9th row k.

10th row p.

Rep these rows 3 times, inc 1 st at each end of p row.

Cast off.

Press, fold along shortest row, and hem into 32nd row of body.

And now I am lost again!!! Did I pick the stitches up right ?? I was looking at pictures of a real grenade and it looks like the peice I just did (which I did in black because this is my “can I do this before I buy the right colored yarn”) runs lengthwise down the grenade. Now I haven’t done the TRIGGER yet because I thought I may have done this wrong. Does this look right to you guys ??? And if so, I don’t understand where to fold it at. Am I folding it lengthwise??? Or am I folding it width wise ?? I am just really confused!!! Thanks for the help !

So, this is what a real one looks like. It just doesn’t make any sense to me, with what I just did.

Well, i just got done knitting up the trigger and I’m really not happy with the way my grenade looks. I am guessing that the grey at the top (which I did in black) is the grey surrounding the top of the grenade. But does anyone think this would have been easier if the pattern just called for a color change from green to grey at row 32??? I think that is what I am going to do next time. Once I get my grenade stitched up I will post a picture so, you guys can see what I mean. Below is a picture of what it SHOULD (lol) look like. Thanks a bunch !

Maybe they have you do it this way so that when you fold that second part up it makes the top sturdier?

I was thinking that, but there are holes at the top of the grenade purse where you will add your drawstring and i would think that the GREY would cover that up. So, what I am going to do with this one is thread my drawsting through the holes and then sew the grey to the inside of the grenade. This way it will be covering the top like the picture and it will also already have the drawsting going through it. I think that might work lol.

Sounds good. Since this is not exactly something you’re going to wear to a wedding, or anything, you can pretty much experiment as much as you want! :rofling: Just don’t blow yourself up.

Here’s the finshed bag. The only thing I changed this time was I added a little flap to hold the drawstring. I’m just into that lol. I’m totally just gonna change colors on row 32 next time… Or something like that…
:XX:

here’s the front of it…

P.s. If you were to put a handle on it… What kind would you put on it??? LIke backpack handles?(little ones of course) Or little purse handles? (1 or 2 ~never carried one, so this is kinda new to me lmao) OR one big long one in the center???

THanks a bunch !!!

 One of a kind! You did a good job! :cheering: :cheering:
