Purling with a bar increase....frusterated PLEASE help!

I am a fairly new knitter and am having trouble with a pattern for a baby blanket. For some reason when I kfb, (bar increase) on the purl side I keep getting a knot in my work! Please help! It’s possible that I’m not doing the increase correctly but i’m not sure. Please see the pattern below. Also, if anyone knows of any pictures/video of the purl bar increase online can you please send my the link

rw 1: (RS) k1, kfb, k to the end of the row
rw 2: (WS) k1, kfb, p to the end of the row

I’ve been knitting front to back like it says, but is it possible I should be purling instead?

I think you’re supposed to knit in the front loop of the stitch, then knit into the back loop before you slide the stitch off of the left needle. :??

The pattern does say kfb, not pfb, so I’d just knit front and back.

If knitting f&b is easier (which it is) and you like the way it looks, do it.

BUT…if you really want to pf&b, you purl into the stitch like normal, but dont slide it off. Then you reach your needle around to the FAR left side of the back of the stitch and stick the needle through to the front/right side (did you see Amy’s video on purling into the back of a st?). Wrap your yarn as you do when you purl regularly, then slide the whole mess off the needle.
