Purling tbl

Would love a little help on this one if possible. I’m trying to purl through the back loop. I can knit through the back loop ok but when I try to purl through it, like I think its supposed to be done I seem to pick up an extra stitch. The yarn goes over the right needle in such a way that when I bring the yarn through the stitch it forms a new stitch between the previous stitch and the one I just did. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Start with your yarn in front. Bring the right needle around back and insert it from left to right through the back loop. Wrap the right tip with the yarn and pull it through.

If you’re getting a yo, my only thought is that you’ve started with the yarn in back.

thanks Ingrid !! I did have the yarn in front but I was inserting the needle in the back loop but from right to left just like a purl stitch. I’m at work right now but when I get home tonite I will try it again. Thanks so much for such a quick reply!!
