Purling in back loops - is there some trick to it?

Theoretically, I do know how to purl in back loops, it’s the execution I’m having trouble with. I can’t seem to manage to get the loop that’s wrapped around the needle back through without dropping the working yarn in order to hold it on there and shove it through with both hands. It just won’t stay wrapped. Or the needle slides back through the loop without bringing anything with it.

If only throwing your needles across the room helped…

Would it help if you tried to do the stitch reeeeeally close to the tip of your needle? There would be more leeway that way, you’d just have to make sure the stitch didn’t fall off!

hmm… Yeah, that’s a little better. I think this is one stitch I’ll try to avoid in the future. It’s too frustrating.

It is very awkward. You’re not alone.
