Purling a round for hem

Hello!

I’m knitting my first sweater and the pattern says to knit 5 rounds, then purl one round (for hem)…I THINK I’ve knit SIX rounds so far…

so my questions are these:

How do I count rows of stockinette stitch!?

And do I have to knit an ODD number of rounds, and then purl my hem round, in order for the “bumps” to be on the right side?..if so, I should knit another round (for a total of 7) before I purl…?

Thanks folks!

Erin

I count stockinette by counting the rows of bumps on the purl side. You don’t have to have knit an odd number of roounds. If you’ve done 6, that’s okay, you’ll just have one extra in the hem and it really won’t matter.

If you’re knitting in the round, it won’t matter. Just purl the next one and don’t tell anybody

Thanks Suzeeq! I think I’ve actually knit 7 rounds…!

Hee hee! Thanks Becky!
