Purl row one?

need help with pattern instruction,it reads: using mc, co 84sts, (ws) purl 1
row.begin elongated st pattern and stripe sequence, and at same time,
shape center front and center back as follows,all (rs) rows K1 K2tog,knit across,all (ws) rows work even in pattern…here’s where I’m confused
do I start with row 1 purl,then start the elongated pattern?

Yes, you purl one row, then start with the elongated stitch pattern.
