Pttrn Abbr Trbl: "...from to *to*"

Hello, I’m a long time KH-lurker, first time poster. I’m having trouble with an abbreviation on a pattern that I am working on. It’s made difficult by the fact that it is similar to a common preposition, and thus nearly impossible to find when I try to search for it either on KH, or the interwebs. It’s probably really simple and obvious. However, I’m proving to be pretty dense. I’m hoping that you wonderful folks can help.

I’m making a hat, it’s the Scarf Knitter Beanie Hat listed on ravelry.com (by Anne Carroll Gilmour).

The part I am at is under the “1st dec rnd”, where it says “… Rep from to to 1st(different colored marker) mkr”. What does “to” mean in knitting terms?

It means to repeat the instructions that are between the asterisks, from the first asterisk to the next asterisk (from * to *). So for the directions: k 8(9,10,11,12)k2tog-pl mkr. Rep from to to 1st(different colored) mkr, you would repeat the k 8(9,10,11,12)k2tog-pl mkr. however many times will take you to the 1st different colored marker.

Oooohhhh… That makes a lot of sense. So it’s the asterisks that are the important part there. I see. This pattern makes much more sense now. Thank you very much, salmonmac (Rep from to to ad infinitum).

Perfect and a good giggle, too! Very happy holidays to you.

Thanks, I had a good, algorithmic-based, gill-bearing aquatic craniate teacher.
A very happy holidays to you as well!
