Provisional cast on in the round

I am going to start a boy’s hat with ear flaps that calls for a provisional cast on. Normally for in the round I knit one more stitch and pass over to make the join and arrive at the correct number of stitches. My question is…if I do this with a provisional cast on…do I slip the cast on and the working yarn over the same (provisional and working)? I guess I should just try it and experiment.

Hmm, I never thought about this. How are you doing your provisional cast on? I’ve used a crochet chain in the past and it seems that that would work, maybe even give you an extra loop to make up for that missing stitch, but I’m not sure about other provisional cast ons.

Sometimes a provisional cast on will give you one less stitch on the held stitches so maybe it will all even out.
