Problems with first row of stitches

Hi!
I have a general knitting problem. I’ve been trying to figure out what I am doing wrong for awhile. My first row after casting on always has a very long bit of yarn in between. This happens every time. Usually I just cast on an extra stitch and let it go after my first row. This is not a good strategy though lol. Recently I cast on like 100 stitches and by the middle my long bit of yarn was causing a lot of problems. I would be very grateful if someone could help me figure out what I am doing wrong. I don’t think i leave enough space in between the original casting on stitches that it would be a problem? Here is an example:

Okay nevermind, I can’t give an example yet. Need to post a few more times

Here is the example

It’s the cast on; backward loop does that. I just used it last night and was able to cast on a st with the exra yarn every 3-4 sts. Use the knit, cable or longtail instead to start a project; the loop is simple but only good if you need just a few sts.
