Problems with basketweave stitch

I’ve tried a couple of patterns for a simple basketweave stitch. However, each time I get a ladder of loose stitches when I switch from knit to purl. If you have any idea what I might be doing to cause this and what I can do to prevent it, I would really appreciate it. I’m trying to make a baby blanket for a friend who is expecting in September.

Welcome to the forums! :waving:

The same thing happened to me when I first started. My stockinette looked fine, but any switching between knit and purl looked awful.

Watch your needle tips as you knit. Try to keep them as close together as possible. Well, jeeze, I can’t explain it too well, but here’s a pretty good article.

The best advice anyone’s ever given me about knitting, and I learned it right here, was not to give up. Keep knitting. Keep practicing. Even tension is something your hands will learn how to do if you do it often enough.

Again, welcome to KH, come back often!
