Problems knitting in a round

I have attempted to knit myself a drawstring bag which was going fine until I had finished knitting and realised somehow it had got twisted as I was knitting. I do not understand how I twisted it. What can I do to prevent this issue?

“Twisting” your sts (inadvertently making a mobius) is something that happened way back on the 1st row when you joined the CO row to work in-the-round.

The only way to avoid this is to CAREFULLY check and arrange your sts BEFORE joining in-the-round to make sure thay are not twisted. If this does happen, you can usually tell after a few rows and can frog and re-start then rather than completing the entire project.

Sorry, but looks like you’ll have to frog this one.

Oy. The dreaded twist. I’ve had that happen too many times, no matter how careful I think I’m being. Lately I’ve started knitting a couple rows flat and then joining to work in the round. The stitches on the first rows can be joined together with the tail later. I will actually add a stitch at each end to work in stockinette and then they go away with a couple of mattress stitches. I’m sorry you have to frog.

If you cast on and knit the first 2 rounds, you can lay your work and check for twisting. It’s really easy to undo any twist because you only have one connecting strand of yarn, simply straighten the stitches and continue knitting. I have even done this with 2 strands of connecting yarn but I don’t recommend it.
