Hi, I am having a problem with a particular row of a Sirdar pattern for a girls cardigan.
I understand how to do yfwd yrn yon etc but can’t work out what to do as one follows straight after the other
The repeated section on that row is as fallows
yfwd, s1, k1, psso, p1, yon, s2, k1,p2sso, YFWD, YRN, p1, k2tog, yfwd, k1
I can work out the whole row and have had no problems on other rows but the YFWD, YRN is confusing me. Am I bringing the yfwd after my k1, p2sso and then wrapping it around the needle and creating one extra stitch or am I trying to create two extra stitches by wrapping it around again? I just can’t seem to work it out.
I would be extremely thankful for any help on this as I can’t find any videos that show this particular query.
Problem with yfwd,yrn
Hello
Yes that looks confusing doesn’t it?
Thank you for posting the full section as it really helps.
The stitch following the yfrw, yrn is a purl and this is why it feels like a lot of yarning around the needle when what is really happening is a preperation for a purl stitch (the yarn forward between the needles) and a single stitch being created by a single loop over the needle (the yarn around the needle). When you begin the ‘yarn around needle’ your yarn is in front and when you end it your yarn is in front too, with one loop of yarn over the needle making one stitch.
I hope this helps.
Thank you very much. Yes this makes sense now but i will practice on some spare wool to make sure I end up wit( the right number of stitches before going back to my cardigan.
That’s a great idea. I always practise new stitches on a swatch first too.
Don’t hesitate to ask again if you can’t work it out or get another tricky bit.
Thank you.
