I am knitting the free Drops Desisgn Almond Breeze sweater, and I’ve encountered a perplexing issue. It’s knit top-down, starting with the turtle neck. Once the neck is finished, there are 56 stitches on the round needle. For the start of the yoke, the instructions are to place markers as follows:
Place marker at first stitch for the transition between sleeve and back
Count 18 stitches and place marker for back
Count 8 stitches and place marker for sleeve
Count 18 stitches and place marker for front
There should be 8 more stitches remaining on the needle for the sleeve
According to the directions, there are 56 stitches on the needle before placing markers, but the marker placement only requires 52 stitches. I thought maybe the discrepancy was only for the size I’m knitting (L), but I checked the instructions for various sweater sizes, and they all come out with 4 extra stitches.
Am I missing something here? I know I can fix the problem easily enough by simply adding more decreases before placing markers, but I’m thinking the instructions are probably correct and intentional and should be followed.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.
