I’m playing around with making cables for the first time and I’ve noticed a problem.

You see the little holes on either side of the cable? You can really see it on the one in the middle. Anyone know of a way to avoid/fix this?
Thanks,
Holly

First of all, what lovely variagated yarn!!!
And about the holes, I think the only thing I can think to suggest is to make sure that the first stitch following the cable (most always it’s a purl stitch) is nice and tight, perhaps tighter than you might usually do it.
I finished it last night, despite the holes driving me crazy. And I’m happy to see that you can’t see 'em that much once it’s off the needles. It’s still frustrating, but I’ll try again and see if I can work it out. :wall:
Here’s a picture of it done.

I just saw the picture on your blog and it is BEAUTIFUL. Personally, I can’t notice the holes at all, except that you mentioned they were there! Great job for your first time doing cables, I am impressed!! Practise will make perfect.
What is the yarn?
It’s Sugar’n Cream - Salt & Pepper print. I got it at AC Moore.

Ahh I love that yarn!!
I don’t understand the holes that you are talking about :?? You can barely notice them!
They seemed huge to me, hehehe. I noticed it because, even though I was knitting tightly 'cause I was switching from purl/knit and back, the yarn would get REALLY lose on either side of the cable and then be fine for the rest and then I saw the huge holes on either side of the cables. Not so bad once it’s off the needles, but I took it apart quite a few times trying to fix it, oh wellll.

I don’t see any holes, just black specs in the yarn. it looks great! Good job@
Sugar & Cream doesn’t have a lot of stretch to it, so I think you did as well as you could with it. Looks great to me!
