Problem With a Pattern Repeat

Hi All, I’m needing some help deciphering a knitting pattern. I thought I had this process down, but I’m missing something with this current pattern.

Scenario:

I’m knitting the Moss and Vine beanie on Ravelry. I’ve knit my 11 rounds of 2x2 rib over 80 stitches and am now on the increase round. The increase round reads as follows:

[[P2, [K1, KFB] x5, P2, TL]]

I interpret his to mean "Purl two, knit one, knit front and back. Do this five times. After these five repeats (which turn 20 stitches into 25), I now purl two stitches and then with the last two knit stitches I perform a ‘twisted lefted’ which creates the twist but still having two stitches.’

This adds up to 29 stitches per repeat. According to further on in the pattern I should have five sections of repeats with 33 stitches in each section, but when I do it this way, I don’t have enough stitches to create five sections, nor do I have 33 stitches per section.

What am I doing wrong? Any help is much appreciated, and thank you in advance!

Welcome to KH!

Really pretty beret.
You cast on 80sts. The pattern repeat is 16sts.
P2, [K1, KFB] x5, P2, TL

Work that as:
P2 = 2sts before working the row and 2sts after the row is worked.
[K1, KFB] x5 = 10sts before the row is work and15sts after the row is worked (don’t include the initial P2 in this repeat. It isn’t within this set of brackets. Only the K1,KFB is repeated 5x.)
P2, TL = 4sts before and after the row is worked.

After the row is finished you’ll have 21sts in the repeat of [[P2, [K1, KFB] x5, P2, TL]].

Ahh, many thanks for the help! I get it now. It really is like working order of operations in math. It is a pretty beret, isn’t it? Thanks again, and thanks for the welcome. I’m so grateful this forum is here (so many forums have gone by the wayside with the advent of Reddit and other such mega-forums).

Exactly like math. All those things you learned back then come in handy now. Have fun finishing up the beret and please do post a photo when you finish. Thanks for the pattern information!
