Mornin,
I’m currently doing a diagonal lace shell in garter stitch worked in 4 steps (lower front triangle with center increases, right side section w/short rows, left side worked to correspond & top neck section). I have completed the lower triangle of front and a bit confused about working right side. Instructions are as follows:
Continuing on the sts retained on needle, work short rows as follows:
Row 1: K to end, turn; inc 1, PM, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.
(Note: from now on, you’ll be leaving an add’l stitch unworked each time you turn)
Rows 2 thru 5: Sl 1, k to marker, RM, k1, turn; inc 1, PM, k to last 2 sts, p2tog
I’m not understanding where the unworked stitch is each time I turn. Is it the slip stitch? I’m just not quite wrapping my brain around this one.
Appreciate any assistance …
i think when they say ‘unworked’ they are reffering to the slipped stitch
No, not the slipped st. Each `row’ is actually going to be 2 rows. On row 1 you worked across all the sts, then turned, increased 1 (which made 2 sts) and pm, then knit across them all again decreasing on the last one. On row 2 you work to that marker, k1 and turn even though you still have 1 st left. When you come back to that marker again, k1 and turn again, leaving 2 sts. One the next row you’ll have 3 sts. The slip stitch is at the other end of the row from the marker.
Don’t try to figure it out in your head, just do it, and it’s written very clearly so you should be able to figure it out with the yarn and needles in your hand.
I think what’s throwing me off is knitting to marker, remove marker, knit one, turn - I still don’t get how I would have one stitch to leave. But as you suggested, I just did it by reading your directions & I’m rolling now! Thanks again!
Happy & Safe Holiday to Everyone!!
Yeah, the marker moves every time you come to it, but it will work out.
