Prayer shawl+purl

Hi, I’m trying to make a prayer shawl and I’m supposed to knit 3 purl 3, except when ever I try to purl it just looks crazy!Can anyone give me any advice?Thank!

Then bringing it to the back to knit?

Yes, make sure you bring your yarn between the needles to the front to purl and then back between the needles to the back to knit.
