Potentially making a Bubble effect?

Greetings all!

This may seem silly, but I can’t make sense of it. Ideally I’d like a video if anyone can help guide me in the right direction. I’m a “need to see it in action” person when it comes to new stitches.

I found a pattern the other day and it looks nice so I thought I would give it a whirl, well it whirled me instead. The part that has me confused is row 2 “pass 3rd st on right-hand needle over first two 2 sts”.

Here it is:

Multiples of 3

Row 1: purl
Row 2: (right side) K2, *YO, K3, pass 3rd st on right-hand needle over first two 2 sts; rep from * to last st, K1
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: K1, K3, pass 3rd st on right-hand needle over first 2 sts, YO; rep from to last 2 sts, K2

Rep 4 rows

Thank you so much for reading

I don’t know of a video, but imagine that the stitches on your right needle from the tip counting to the right are stitches numbered 1, 2, and 3.

1 2 3

Lift stitch # 3 over stitches 1 & 2, kind of like binding off.

Hello and welcome to KH! Here is a link to a discussion of this stitch sequence:

K3 pass 3rd stitch on RH needle over first 2 stitches

You will have a bar running across the bottom of the two stitches that you passed the third stitch over.

What are you knitting?

Oh wonderful, thanks for help and welcome!

Honestly, I am not making anything special, just squares. I’ve been knitting since 2008 on & off again. A friend of mine who was into knitting introduced me and she gave me the book Super Stitches Knitting by Karen Hemingway. So over time I’ve been making squares, well more like rectangles, of each pattern, page by page. I just really like experimenting with new stitches and maneuvers on a small scale. Honestly, the idea of making anything on a grand scale is overwhelming.
