Potato chip scarf-knit in front and back?

I found a pattern for a cool- looking ruffled scarf at

I’m not sure that is the whole url so you may have to search at knitpicks.
Anyway it does not make sense to me, it calls for casting on 90 stitches, knitting the first row, then second row knit in front and back of each stitch. The rest of the scarf is just alternating these rows. I don’t know how to knit in front and back without ending up with twice as many stitches each row.

Please help if you know what they mean by knit in front and back!

I’m trying to make it in the Shiraz-wine-dyed alpaca :wink:

That’s the whole idea! Each row has twice as many stitches as the one before it :thumbsup:

If you’re ending up with double the stitches, you’re doing it right. Knitting in the front and back makes two stitches out of one, so you’re on track. It’s probably how they get the effect of the scarf.

you are doing it exactly right. when you start binding off you will see the effect. it is a lot of work and the bind of will be waaaaaaaay tedious but it will be VERY cool!
