I have tried to make this hat flat and circular, but it is not working out either way. I should have a multiple of 4 for the ribbing, and then? I don’t know how many stitches I should have for the cable pattern, but my thought process was to knit it in the round and end on purl instead of knit because otherwise I will have a flat area…But the cable area itself does not work for the hat, so should I just use the pattern portion for the poncho and then pick up in the hat instructions when I start to decrease for shaping? I do not know how to go about fixing this- Silly pattern!
Poncho's Hat
Some of these patterns can be painful. Figure out what the repeat is from the poncho and check the stitch number after the rib and before the cable pattern in the hat. Because it’s a beret there are likely increases to shape the hat. Then you can adjust the stitch number to fit the cable pattern. If it’s a few stitches off the row with the increases will be the place to adjust the stitch number.
If you’d like you can quote the first couple of rows after the rib. Don’t quote a large portion of the pattern due to designer copyright please. We should be able to figure out how to work it in the round if that is your preference.
Well, I looked at another Ravelry user comments on this project here.

They simply said, “Never again!”
They may be feeling a bit beat up by the fringe. I don’t like fringe either.
My point is that they have some close up pictures of the poncho and hat in green yarn. These photos should make counting stitches and charting the pattern easier.
Edited to correct a word in the second paragraph and also to add that I avoid working cables. “I do not like them Sam I am.”
I have decided to make something else for the baby- I am not giving up, but frankly at the moment, I do not have time to fiddle with the hat. I would have liked to knit the hat in an evening but since the pattern is giving me grief, I just don’t have time. I have another project that is a gift for Christmas that I need to finish. Maybe I will just make the baby a dress- that doesn’t take too long.
- this is the second pattern from this company that I have been burned on- I think I won’t be making more from them.
