I decided it’s about time to take my lace sock knitting to a new level!
I want to knit some lace socks with a more complicated lace pattern and I found the following two at knitty.com: Pomatomus Fallingleaves
But somehow I have trouble with the sizing. I just can’t decide whether or not the sizes given will fit me.
I’ve got a 40 EU size and usually I knit my socks with 60sts, which are 4 sts less than recommended for my size.
Has anyone knitted these socks? In what size? Did they fit tight? And lastly how do I determine if they fit me? :??
I know a lot of questions, but I don’t want to knit half a sock only to find out it doesn’t fit
I’ve not yet knit either, but I can tell you that I have the same size foot & when I knit socks with 72 st cast on I use size 0 addi’s/when I knit socks with 60-64 sts I use size 1 addi. I would say that you need to check your gauge (as in all things) and that u r good to go if your gauge is correct
Hi…I’m currently knitting the Pomatomus socks, and I wear an American size 9 ladies’ shoe. I was fearful of the ‘72 stich’ count, so I downsized to a size 1 needle to start (usually 60 stitches fits loosely in a ribbed stitch knitted on size 1’s). But the sock would not comfortable go over my heel, when I finished the leg part. So, I switched to the size 2’s recommended, and just finished the first sock. The sock now fits over the heel easily when I put the socks on, and the overally fit is relaxed but not loose enough to slide around or anything. I have yet to wear them with shoes obviously, so I don’t know if a size 1.5 needle would have been a better compromise. But you don’t want the ‘lacy holes’ all stretched out tight when the sock is on the foot !
