Hi,
I’m trying to get back into crochet by doing a dishcloth but I don’t understand the following:
over next 4 st work half double crochet twice
I’m thinking it means work half double crochet in the next 4 stitches.
Please help clear this up for me.
Thank you.

Please link to your pattern if possible.
Are there ( ) or * or something to indicate that certain stitches are to be repeated twice?
Here’s the link
I d/l the pattern but I can’t make sense of it. I’ll try again later when I have more time. Maybe someone else will be able to figure it out before I try again.
This pattern is very oddly written, I’ve never seen cdc for half double crochet before, but maybe if you look at the photo you can eventually work it out.
Personally I’d ditch that pattern and do something else. Here’s a pattern for Wavy Stripes Dishcloth that looks very similar and as much of the pattern as I read makes sense. I don’t think you’re likely to have many problems with this one if you choose to use it and it would be much easier for you to get help if you need it.
Cdc is defined at the beginning of the pattern as “crossed double crochet”:
Crossed Double Crochet (cdc)
Skip next st, 1 dc into next st, 1 dc into skipped st working over
previous dc
You work the sts out of order to give the interesting little crossed pattern in the yellow color yarn
The listing for cdc in the Abbreviations is incorrect.
This is a great way to get back into crochet. Good luck with it!
I’m glad you saw that, I skipped right to the box of Abbreviations where it says cdc means half double crochet. It is a nice pattern and now that somebody pointed out what cdc really means it makes more sense. Thanks.
Thank you for solving that mystery.
