Please help

I’m getting ready to order yarn. it comes in 50 gram hanks. my pattern calls for 38 ounces… i need to know how much yarn i need to order. thanks soooo much in advance!!

1 ounce = 28.3495231 grams

28.3495231 x 50 = 1417.5 divided by 38 = 37.3 skeins

This should be right…hopefully someone will verify my answer. Hope this helps…Mary

Thank You so much!

I don’t think I’m right…hold on

It should be:
28.3495231 x 38 = 1077.28 divided by 50 = 21.58 skeins
Sorry bout that!

100g = 3.5 oz. So 50g = 1.75oz. So you need 22 hanks of 50g each. BUT if you are using a different yarn from the one the pattern advises, be careful of the yardage. That and the yarn weight is even more important. What is the original yarn, and what are you planning on using?

Well, I went to an on line metric converter and it said that 38 oz is 1077.3 grams. If you divide 1077.3 by 50 to see how many 50 gram hanks you would need you get 21.5 something so you would need to throw in another one to be sure to have enough so 22.

Checking what mwhite said I multiplied 38 skeins (37.3 you’d have to get 38 to be sure) by 50 I got 1900 grams in 38 skeins. When I entered 1900 grams in the metric converter it said that equals 67 ounces.

Thank you so much! I am awful at math and trying to figure that one out just was smokin my brain!!

Whew, thanks ladies! LOL! I just pictured Tina buying 37 skeins and everything she makes is from the same yarn for 2 years! :teehee:

I’m making this Diamond pattern throw. http://www.freepatterns.com/list.html?cat_id=363 It doesn’t give a yarn brand. just worsted wieght… i am new at this. I just had surgery and have to be off my feet for 12 weeks and so i’ve decided to teach myself to knit.

Oh and I want to use the Wool of the Andes yarn from knitpicks

At least if I woulda bought that much yarn, I was picking a color I really liked. I would have figured out something to use it on! hahaha

Very pretty and although I’d hate to be confined…the thought of getting to knit for 12 weeks sounds wonderful!!! I hope you’re feeling okay.

doing ok. hip replacement. have already learned vicodin and trying to follow a pattern has disasterous results! Will be working on this in between doses. lol

I heard that! I hear that the therapy is pretty tough but sounds like you’re on the mend. Gotta show us progress on this, ya know!!! Holler if you need any help. The KH folks are fantastic!!!

Unless I’m looking at it wrong, it says you need 32 oz, not 38. However, I would still get those extra skeins just in case. Working without yardage is trickier and whatever yarn the pattern designer used might have given more per gram/oz than WotA. The other thing is that if you run out of yarn, you’ll just have a shorter afghan:) . So no biggie. Good luck with it and before you know it, those 12 weeks will have gone by!

I want to make it a little longer so the extra will be good. note to self: don’t try to read yarn amounts on patterns on vicodin either… lol i’m thinking i should find a different pattern though. i have only been knitting a couple weeks so maybe something easier first time out would be good. if anyone has any good afghan patterns they’d like to share that could use that wool would be appreciated. Thanks all. I’m loggin off for now but will be back tomorrow.

That’s what I got, but I didn’t think I was right. Glad to see we came up with the same thing.

You know that WotA is wool and needs to be hand washed? Hopefully you won’t have to clean it often.
