I stumped! I’m working on the baby version of Sally Melville’s “Einstein Coat”, and I have a problem with figuring out where the decreases are placed for the sleeves. Here’s the directions (the part I bolded and put in blue is where I have the question; I understand everything else for the sleeve directions). Before I go on with the directions, it’s important to know that when she says “ridges”, that represents 2 rows of knitting (something everybody except for me probably knows! :teehee:):
With RS facing, pick up and K 1 st in bind-off row of Upper Right Front and in the back of every sl st down side of Upper Right Front to 24 (27,30) sts on needle for Coat. Place marker to designate center of sleeve. Working up side of Upper Back, pick up and k 1 st in the back of every sl st, ending in bind off row of Upper Back to 48 (54,60) sts on needle for Coat. Turn work. Work garter st with sl-st edge to 6 (6,12) ridges for Coat.
Next (decrease) row (RS): Work to 3 sts from center marker, slip 1, knit 1, pass slip stitch over (SKP), k2, k2tog, k to end. Work 3 (5,5) more rows for Coat. Continue, working decreases on either side of center of sleeve each 4 or 6 rows (as directed above) to 30 (36,40) sts remaining for Coat. Continue without decreases to 6 (7½, 9)" from beginning for Coat. Bind off.
Did I miss something? Where does it tell me how many rows to work decreases (“as directed above”)? How many rows do I need to knit before doing another decrease? I’m making the smallest size.
That clears things up a lot! I want to finish this coat today if I can (well…maybe it’ll be more like tomorrow…!) :teehee:
