Please help with lace pattern

Hello,

I am currently trying to follow my first lace pattern which is baffling me. The pattern says

1st row: K1, *yfwd, sl1, K1, psso, K1 K2tog, yfwd, K1, rep from * to end
2nd row: purl
3rd row: K2, *yfwd, sl 2, K1, p2sso, yfwd, K3, rep from * to last 5 sts, yfwd, sl 2, k1, p2sso, yfwd, K2…
4th row: purl.

I begin with 85 stitches and I’m supposed to end with the same amount according to the pattern but I end up with 59 which as I am supposed to repeat the pattern for 32cm is not going to work.

Please can you tell me what I’m doing wrong? or throw any help my way!

Thanks

Gemma

Don’t drop the YOs on the next row, purl into them like a stitch.

A challenging pattern…can you take a picture of your work??
So that we can see what’s happening. It is easy to drop the yarn over stitched when you turn the work around and work the wrong side. let us know how it is going!

Should I be adding a stitch here:

*yfwd, sl1, K1,psso,

because I watched a video on youtube and she didn’t add a stitch here but when I look at the pattern I only seem to be adding one stitch at the end but losing 2 stitches with the psso and k2tog.

Should the yfwd always add a stitch? because that would make more sense.

Sorry if this should be obvious but I’ve only been learning since august so these stitches are new to me.

Thanks for your help.

No that’s a YO followed by a decrease so they balance out. If what you wrote above is the pattern “K1, *yfwd, sl1, K1, psso, K1 K2tog, yfwd, K1, rep from * to end” then in the repeat - yo, dec, k1, dec, yo, k1 - there are 2 decs and 2 YOs so the st number stays the same.

Thanks, I think the yfwd (YO) thing has been a little confusing in this pattern but I think I’ve got it now.

Thanks for your help.
