Please Help...very confused!

I’m having a hard time with a particular part of my pattern. I think I understand what I am supposed to do, but the math just isn’t woking out.
Here are my instructions: (87 sts on needles)
Inc 1 st each end of next and following alt rows twice.
Purl 1 row.
Next row: Cast on 5 sts. Knit to end of row.
Next row: Cast on 3 sts. Purl to end of row. Place a marker at beg of row.
101 sts.
Continue even until work from marked row measures 3 ins, ending with a purl row.

When I do the math, I’m 3 stitches short. I must be going wrong somewhere. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

I get 101 when adding in my head. You start with 87, and increase by 2 three times. That’s 93. Then you cast on 5, which makes 98. Finally you cast on 3, which equals 101.

Did you miss the instruction to increase one stitch each end ? I had to re-read the instructions, because I missed that the first time. That might account for your missing 3 stitches

Thanks for the help guys!
I think I did miss the “each end” part of the pattern. Problem solved!

Thanks again
