Please help to decipher a pattern

Hello, I am trying to knit a mouse toy for my cat. The pattern starts as follows:

CO 3sts
Row1: Inc1 into each st.
Row2: P
Row3: (k1, inc1) twice, K2 (inc1, k1) twice
Row4: P

Please help me with Row3. When I am starting row 3, I have 6 stitches. If I follow the instructions how they are written for row 3, I would do the following:

knit1, inc1, knit1, inc1, knit1, knit1, inc1, knit1, inc1, knit1

but that’s 10 stitches, not 6. So what is the proper way to do Row3? Is (k1, inc1) supposed to be one stitch, and if so, what is the significance of (k1, inc1) vs. (inc1, k1)?

Thank you so much for your help.

Use a m1 instead of kfb. Row 3 is supposed to give you 10 sts, you just start out with 6 like this - k1, m1, k1, m1, k2, m1, k1, m1, k1. The last half of sts where the inc is before the k1 is for shaping - it’s a mirror of the k1 inc on the first half.
