Please help this new knitter!

Hi everyone! I’m attempting to knit a shrug (it said it’s “an ideal first project”), and I feel so lame because only 4 rows later, I’m having trouble understanding the directions. :frowning: What does it mean when it says:

Knit twice into 1st st, knit to last st, knit twice into last st

How exactly do I knit twice into one stitch?

If someone can help me, I’d really appreciate it! I can’t move forward on this project from here. Thanks!

If you have high speed and can watch the videos, go to basic techniques and increase. Amy has videos on it.

If you don’t - stick your right needle in to knit as usual, pull a loop through, but don’t remove the stitch from the left needle. Now stick the right back in -not in the usual place, but behind it, through the back, and pull up another and then push the stitch off the left needle.

Hope that’s clear!!

Welcome LilT23!

It’s called a “Bar Increase,” and is on the increases page.

Happy Knitting!
Amy

Thank you both for your help! I’m now happily making progress on my project again.

Amy ~ I’m sure you’ve heard this hundreds of times already, but your website is amazing! You’ve made it so easy for me to learn how to knit in the comfort of my own home, without taking classes…which is important for those of us living on a budget! So thank you, thank you, thank you for all of those videos!!
