Please Help Me!

I need help!! I am making a hat and have done ribbing for 4 1/2 inches. I am new at reading patterns and don’t understand the next row. It reads: Rib across 34 sts, [m1 rib 2] 3 times, rib to end. :??

I know how to make one I just dont understand do I make one Knit 2 Purl 2 and repeat or what… Im confused

You’re supposed to M1–by lifting the bar between stitches, then work two stitches in however it will fit the rib–knitting 2 or purling 2.

So it’s M1, work 2, m1 work 2, m1, work 2

When a pattern says `Rib x,’ it means to work in the ribbing that many sts. So Rib 2 doesn’t mean k2, p2, it means just 2 sts in whatever st the rib is at that point. After 34 sts of rib, the next would be p, so you would m1, p2, m1, k2, m1, p2.

Thanks guys sometimes when you take a fresh look at it your question seems to answer itself. I really appreciate your help

A lifted increase would work for this kind of situation, but so would a simple backward loop increase. It is also called a M1 sometimes.
