I am working on a mask, can someone please help me understand this pattern? I will be knitting this on DPNs:
CO 120 st
Work in Garter stitch 5 rows
On 6th row, K 45, BO 13, K 4, turn and K back 4, repeat, BO 13, K
across
Continuing garter stitch, work 45, CO 13, work 4, CO 13, work 45.
Work in Garter stitch 6 rows
How do I turn and K back using DPNs? I am assuming the BO, CO areas are where the eye holes will be…
It sounds like you know what the instructions want, just not sure how to turn? You’ll need to redistribute your stitches so that when you turn the work you’ll be able to have the stitches you need to work at the right place on the needle. Using another needle might be easier than moving them to the next needle? HTH
The turn is just like the turn at the end of a row of flat knitting.
When you turn, switch the needles in you hands: take the left hand needle in your right hand and the right hand needle in your left hand.
Thanks everyone! I’ve never had to “turn” anything while knitting yet, I think I can find a video, I just need to figure out how to apply it to DPNs. If I literally just flip the needles in my hands so the left needle is in my right hand and vice versa do I turn back before continuing the K 45 portion of this pattern or just keep knitting on the WS?

Depends on what the directions say. More than likely there is a “work to end of round, turn work” or a “work X sts, turn work” direction, which will have you working on the RS (outside) again.
If you’ve never knit flat then you might want to check the Free Videos tab and take a look at some of them.

My interpretation is that you work 45, CO 13 -do not turn your work- work 4, CO 13 -do not turn your work- work 45. That would be a complete round. You will just continue in the round with your 6 rounds of GS. The flat knitting part is only to make the eye holes. Before when you were to turn it said so.
“On 6th row, K 45, BO 13, K 4, turn and K back 4, repeat, BO 13, K across”
For the 6th row, I think you do need the turn in order to put in the extra rows between the eye openings. The directions aren’t completely clear but it seems to me that you
On 6th row, K 45, BO 13 (eye #1), K 4, turn and K back 4 (on the WS), repeat (that is, turn and k4 on the RS), BO 13 (eye #2), K across (to the end of the row).
I agree that for the next row, the “Continuing…” instructions, there’s no turn.
Where did you get this pattern? When written out as salmonmac did, I agree that’s what you do on the 6th row, I never would have gotten that myself. The pattern really could needs clarification. It may come down to you have to figure out what you have to do to get it to come out as you want. You may have to do significant tweaking.

It’s all in the REPEAT…
Row 6 (RS): K45, BO 13, K4, turn, K4 (WS), turn, K4 (RS), BO 13, K to end.
Row 7 (RS): P45, CO13, P4, CO 13, P45 (to end).
