Please help me picture how to do this

hi,

I am about to embark on my second purse. The first one turned out ok, but I am mildly disappointed. I would like to try this one next, as it seems a bit more manageable, but I am confused about what they mean about picking up the stitches around the sides after I make a rectangle. Does this mean that I should bind off my rectangle first? I have watched Amy’s videos on picking up stitches, but I am still unsure how to not mess this up. The rest makes pretty good sense to me.

Any help would be appreciated very much!!

You don’t have to bind it off first. Your stitches will already be on your needle for one of the long sides. Pick up the stitches on the left short side, work around the other long side and then back up the right short side.

this is the pattern i learned to pick up stitches on!

leave your 39 stitches on the needle. that is the long end of the rectangle. you will be picking up stitches all the way around the rectangle (16 on the short sides and 39 on the cast on side) until you get back to the beginning. You CAN bind them off BUT you will just have to pick up stitches in the bind off edge anyway. if you understand how to pick up stitches it will completely make sense when you get done…basically you are switching from knitting flat to knitting in the round.

so of course you need to be on circs or dpns to do this. ENJOY!

editted to prove that i actually do know shapes!

Thank you ladies for your swift replies! I am eager to give this a try. I think I have a better grasp on what to do now.
