I have TWO questions about some directions…
I’m knitting a sweater and it says " With RS facing, along cable band PU and k 256 sts evenly along, except that at 6 " before end, CO 6 sts, (Question #1 is Do these 6 sts. count as part of the 256 I’m to PU along the band?
Then it says…".leave equal number of rows without PU sts (this is the buttonhole), continue picking sts to end of band".
Question#2 is what does it mean "leave equal number of rows without PU sts??
Here is the sweater and that cable band going down the front sides is where I’m picking up the stitches…

No the 6 CO sts are separate. And skip the space where you’d pick up 6 sts and continue picking up on the other side of them. This will leave a buttonhole, but the 6 sts you CO will be in place of the 6 you skipped so you can continue with the back.
