Please help? knitting the neck of a sweater

I’m currently knitting the neck of a sweater and the directions say "K17 sts; turn and put rem sts on a holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 5 K rows "

I’m having trouble with the “turn and put rem sts on a holder” do i turn the work and put the stitches that i just knitted on a holder, or turn the work and put the stitches that i havent knitted on the holder?

Turn the work and put the unworked sts on a holder. You’re going to be working with the part of the row you just finished knitting (the 17sts),
