Please help explain pattern directions

Starting work on a basket in the round. After making the base, the pattern has the following directions that I’m not understanding. Tia!

“Row 28: Pm, turn corner, pu & k 14 sts directly to left of sts just worked, pm, turn corner, pu & k 14 sts from co edge, pm, turn corner, pu & k 14 sts evenly to corner, pcm to indicate beginning of round. Join to work in rounds. 56 sts”

Hello
If you do not turn the work but instead leave the row just worked facing you, all stitches on the right needle.
Then pick up along the left edge, that is the edge where you would find the end of rows 27, 26, 25 and so on, down towards the cast on edge. As you have 27 rows and are to pick up 14 stitches it’s close to every other row.
When you have picked up all the way down that edge to row 1, place marker, then pick up evenly along the cast on edge.
When you reach the end of the cast on edge and are at the other end of row 1, place marker, and pick up along the other edge which would be beginning of rows 1, 2, 3, and so on. Again probably every other row for the pick up of 14. You will reach the top (the beginning of the last ‘normal’ row you worked) and will now have stitches all the way around the base.
Place a contrasting marker for beginning of the round and join to the first stitch of that row.

Does this make sense?

Thank you! Yes,I think it makes sense and I’ll try it this evening. I appreciate the explanation.

Popping back here to say thank you again. Your explanation was perfect. I’m working on a sample swatch with leftover yarn because this pattern uses 3 strands at the same time and it’s the 1st time I’m doing that. So no photo of it. Still adjusting tension and getting the feel of it, but the pattern is working perfectly. Thanks again!
