I am just learning and have run into a question on a pattern that I really could do with advise. The pattern reads k1, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1, all into next st one row below. Do I leave the loop on the needle or complete each k? It doesn’t look right.

(k1, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1) Leaving all of the stitches on the left needle, you will knit this sequence of stitches into the stitch below. After you complete the third k1 in this sequence, you will drop these stitches from the left needle.

All the stitches created on the “right needle”? I keep ending up with ten extra stitches when I finish the row. At the point of frustration long ago.
I should add that the row below is a elongated stitch.
I’m sorry about your frustration, it’s tough not being able to figure out what the problem is.

How about the following row, could you post that?
k1, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1, all into next st one row below. Do I leave the loop on the needle or complete each k?
Every time you “k1, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1” into the one stitch you will increase your stitch count by four. Do you have any decreases in this row such as k2tog or ssk?
If you drop the knit stitch from the left needle and purl all five stitches together (k1, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1) from the previous row, you end up with something that looks like a little berry or a knot.
If the pattern calls for ten repeats of (k1, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1) in the row and you knit the loop rather than drop it, this could explain the extra ten stitches.

The elongated stitch in the previous row makes it easier to do this increase. I’m not sure why you have 10 extra sts though unless there are other different increases on the row. As Claire said, you’re increasing by multiples of 4sts each time you do this. Read on in the pattern and subsequent rows will probably tell you how to deal with the extra sts.

Or is it:
K1, s2, k1, p2sso, (k1 yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1) into next st one row below, s3, k2tog p3sso. I added in the parentheses and changed the ky to k1. Is that right or is it exactly as you wrote it?
The way I wrote it, there’s a decrease from the p2sso and the k2tog, p3sso of 6sts and an increase of 4sts for a total decrease across the row of 2sts. .

I slip 2 on the beg. and the end rest of the row its 3.
Once again you guys are awesome, I refuse to give up, in fact the only reason I got this pattern was because I wanted to do this stitch.

Are you dropping this loop from the left needle? When you knit into the stitch below, you drop the stitch above, creating an elongated stitch.

Are you slipping the 2 sts [I]over[/I] the k1 and off the right needle and at the end, slipping the 3 sts over the k2tog and off the right needle?
