So my pattern says (k4, y.o, k2 tog,) twice, k4, y.o, k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k1…
im guessing i do (k4, y.o, k2 tog,) two times, is that right?
but place marker on needle?? how and why?
Place marker on needle?
How is just putting a marker of some sort - paperclip, ring, a loop of yarn - on the needle. Why is usually to indicate either where you do future incs, or to set off the stitch pattern repeat. We can answer that a little better if we know what the pattern is. In future rows it’ may tell you to slip the marker or sm, and you just move it from one needle to the other. Sometimes patterns don’t say that, but you do it anyway.
(k4, y.o, k2 tog,) twice, k4, y.o, k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k1, y.o, k2 tog., k4, y.o, k2 tog., k1, y.o, k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k19, y.o, k2 tog, k4, y.o, k2 tog, k10, y.o k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k1, y.o, k2 tog, k4, y.o, k2 tog, k1, y.o, k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k4 (k2 tog, y.o, k2 tog) twice - 3 incs. Slip markers on every row.
so i put marker when it says so in every part of the pattern for the first row, and at the end i put a marker on every row I’ve knitted so far??
I meant the name of the pattern and a link to it or a picture.
You put just 4 markers on the needle that first row and on all the rows after it just slip them from one needle to the other when you come to them. You don’t put them on every row, slipping them carries them along the knitting as you go.
its a pattern from etsy. But i think i understood now, i will probably ask again if theres something i don’t understand:P
Thank you so much for helping.
The purpose of the markers is to make it easier to see the position of your pattern stitches or cables. It eliminates or lessens counting. You can use commercial markers or tie a piece of contrasting yarn around your needles. Another thing I like to use is bobby pins stuck into the knitting row directly underneath the current row. They’re easy to take out and put back in place. They’re also great for marking the beginning of a round in crochet.
thank you:) i got down the marking bit, but now I’m having a problem with this row. its the first row and I’ve done it 3 times now and still theres something wrong I’m doing. The row before this one i increase to 88sts and that works fine. Its when i do the row 1(i posted earlier) i get in to trouble, at the end of it theres not enough stitches left, and i have no idea what to do.
I get to (y.o, k2 tog, k4) twice - 3 incs. Slip markers on every row. After I’ve done the y.o, k2 tog, k4 there is only 3 stitches left, and am i suppose to increase at the end of the pattern?
A yo doesn’t use a stitch, it’s just a wrap around the needles. The “- 3 incs” means that when doing the row as written, by the end of the row you’ll have increased your sts by 3 so will have 91 sts. Go back to the beginning of the row and name the sts and see if you did too many decs or got off somewhere.
After the last marker the pattern reads - k1, y.o, k4 (k2 tog, y.o, k2 tog) twice - so you should have 13 sts to do that last part on.
Can you give us a link to this pattern or a pattern name?
It may be that there’s something wrong with the way the pattern is transcribed in your earlier post because it looks like it’ll take 93sts to begin the row, not 88sts. Also, I get an increase of 6sts overall in the row as written.
oh, i wrote the wrong ending of the pattern its
( y.o, k2 tog, k4) twice – 3 incs
I have contacted the person i bought the pattern from to get the name of it.
hopefully the attached picture of the pattern is showing now.
Sorry for the messy writing…
Thank you so much for trying to help me…
Its on row 1 I’m having trouble
OK, as written, the pattern does require the 88sts that you end the previous row with. Follow Sue’s advice to make sure you’re doing the yo between sts and to go back and name the sts as you count them off. This is made easier because you have the markers.
As I count it you should have 17-12-30-12-17 sts between the markers at the start of the row and 18-14-32-14-18 when you end the row.
It looks to me like you’d need 85 sts to do row 1 and I get 7 sts increased… I could be wrong, your scan is a little blurry. But it looks like this is how it reads -
k4, y.o, k2 tog,) twice, k4, y.o, k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k1, y.o, k2 tog., k4, y.o, k2 tog., k1, y.o, k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k10, y.o, k2 tog, k4, y.o, k2 tog, k10, y.o k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k1, y.o, k2 tog, k4, y.o, k2 tog, k1, y.o, k1, place marker on needle, k1, y.o, k4 (k2 tog, y.o, k4) twice.
Sue, I agree but I think the last section after the marker is k1, yo,k4(yo,k2tog,k4) twice. It is blurry and a little hard to read so I may be dreaming.
Yeah you’re right, she mentioned the correction earlier. I fixed the k19 to k10 when I copy and pasted her previous post, but forgot to change the last part. Will correct that now.
