I’m officially back! It took me a week to pull myself together, but i’m back! We’ve spent 3 weeks in Moscow, Russia, seen lots of relatives, traveled to Saint Petersburg for 3 days and generally had fun! We visited so many interesting places - museums, parks, went to the opera 3 times! Had a cultural vacation, ya know;) I also had a chance to buy a lot of yarn, you can see it HERE!
These a few pictures from the trip. They were all taken with my DH’s cell phone, because i’m still using old, mechanical camera and haven’t had the time to take the films for developing and printing.
This is the view of Kremlin in Moscow from the other side of the river Moskva. It didn’t fit into the frame, so imagine there’s lots more:
A place in the city center called the Patriarch’s Ponds (it was used many years ago for growing fish for the Patriarch of the Russian Church). It’s an important place to the literary world - it is the exact place where the first scenes of the immortal Mikhail Bulgakov’s “Master and Margarita” take place:
Now to some Saint Petersburg pictures! It’s a very different city, it’s much more like Amsterdam, since Peter the Great built it after studying in Europe and in Holland particularly.
Here’s a picture of Peterhof, a place that started as a house in the nearest point to the island-fortress of Kronstadt, but over the years developed in to magnificent complex of buildings and gardens, fountains, surprise fountains and beauty, most of all:
And the final picture:
The bridges are being opened at night on the Neva river. These days is the time of year called “white nights”, because the twilight never goes into darkness and you can walk around this beautiful city and enjoy the palaces and statues. So here’s ont of the bridges:
Wow! I must say that I would never had considered Russia as a place to go on vacation but your pictures of the place make me want to at least consider it someday! My brother and sister in law, they live in Holland, they went to Croatia for a camping vacation a while back, Croatia and camping-who woulda thunk it!?
Thank you for the kind words about the pictures - hubby somehow managed to tame the cell phone Maybe he’s a cell phone wisperer and promised it 100% roaming:roflhard:. Anyway, the pictures i took are not ready yet, but i hope they will as good as his:cheering:
Russia is a beautiful place all the European part has a similar landscape as different parts of USA, around Moscow it’s very green, lots of woods. I missed it! Really green grass growing in a real dirt and not stones and dirt, like here.
Apparently, after looking on the photos i took with my mechanical camera, these pictures are better. Usually i get to take beautiful photos. This time i don’t know who or what to blame - me or the films that i bought on sale…
Thanks! What do you mean by home city? I’m originally from Moscow and now I live in Jerusalem. Because few of the pictures i posted above are of Moscow city center.
