Picking yarn for sweaters

I’ve got four kiddos, and would love to make them some sweaters for next winter. I’m going to use the Ann Norling pullover Raglan. Real simple. They have to be play sweaters. We spend a lot of time outdoors exploring on the beach, in the mountains, woods, wetlands, etc etc.

So I need yarn that is tough, and not super expensive, but not cheap. I could probably spend more $ per skein on the two smaller (size 18 months and 4 years) then on the two larger ones (pre teen). Their favorite sweaters are their cotton sweaters. Any ideas on the yarn?

Plymouth Encore is a good one because it’s machine washable and it’s soft.

I agree with the Encore. I make the g’sons’ sweaters with it and they’re great.

Thanks! The colors are great! Now for that one super picky kid! She really isnt all that picky, except when it comes to clothes. My oldest really wants a yarn that is varigated. Any ideas?

You’re in luck, Plymouth also carries Encore in variegated form: http://www.patternworks.com/PWShopping/partsvyarn.asp?action=lookup&partno=975&subject=U40.L44&catpos=17

Sweet!

Thanks D! My dd thanks you too!

Oh yeah, I guess that link only had solids…my LYS carries the varigated as well. I made a scarf from one and it came out pretty!
