Me yet again, picking up stitches side border on the poncho, taking it nice and easy says pick up 18 along rib have managed 17 on the 4th attempt, pick up 86 up to seam have managed 84, have to do same again seam up to the rib then 18 on rib. Can I just increase the extra stitches on the following knit row before I start the rib? Am picking up under the 2 strands at edge is that OK if I try go into stitches the ridge behind gets very uneven? Trying keep calm am nearly there Don want mess up at the last hurdle.
Yes. Definitely.
What pattern are you making?
If there is a knit row following this, yes, i agree.
If the next row is to rib then you can increase whilst you rib. I would have a good look to see if there is any obvious looking place to increase and I’d pop a marker in near it before beginning the row to remind me, oherwise i get carried away and forget!
Sounds like it’s going well!
It may not be necessary to increase those sts. The number of sts are often dependent on the row gauge. You may not necessarily have the given row gauge because you were more concerned with stitch gauge. Just make sure you have a multiple of the rib sts so that you can complete the pattern (e.g. a multiple of 4 for 2x2 rib) or have it start and end evenly.
Is it this pattern?
Yes it’s the james c brett poncho. Ended up with 10 short so did the increases thanks lovely ladies took 5 hrs to pick up and knit 21 rows now got do same again other side. Have made a mistake realised I’d forgotten knit 2 rows after shaping on back am not undoing shall stretch it a bit sues school of how to fix mistakes do not try it at home! Tried it on my neighbour not happy with it measurements are right with pattern but looks short could of done with another 2inches I reckon.
