Textured slipper pattern asks to pick up nineteen stitches on RS… how?? It calls for DPN’s, but I am using a circular needle… so how? how doI attach the new yarn…?

Oh yes, free pattern from Paton’s
Just start with a new end of yarn. You can tighten up the end and weave it in later. There’s a video for picking up sts on the Free Videos tab at the top of this page, under Tips, down towards the bottom. I think you should be able to do it with the circ because at least initially the sts aren’t joined in the round.
You’ll begin picking up stitches from right to left. I use circulars for both straight knitting and knitting in the round. My straight needles are in storage gathering dust. I like using circulars for straight knitting because I’m not hunting around in the sofa for lost needles. When I put the knitting aside, I can push the work into the center of the cable and I never have any dropped stitches.
