Picking up stitches from back leg of BO stitch

I just can’t wrap my head around these instructions for picking up stitches on the sweater I’m making to create a layered look in a CC. I’m to do this after completing several rows of k1, p1.

“Take new yarn of CC. With rs facing, pick up and knit the back leg of every BO stitch AND the strand below from every purl stitch to get a solid join.” What??? I’m so confused! Do I pick up the back leg from each BO stitch and strand from purl stitch together to create one stitch? Mathematically, I have twice as many BO stitches than purl stitches because of the ribbing.

I’ve been searching online to no avail. I hope someone out there can help me figure out this puzzle.

Many, many thanks,
Marcia

Walk Along by AnkeStrick

You’re not the only person who has struggled with these directions. Is there a row of purl sts after the ribbing and before the bind off? It looks like a one for one pick up and bind off so the stitch number of the CC will be the same as the bind off.

No, there isn’t a row of purl sts after the ribbing.

You might contact the designer and also one or two of the knitters who have added their projects to Ravelry.
Ankestrick is very responsive and this (among others) knitter (among others) mentions the same problem:

This knitter solved the problem by purling the last row after the ribbing.

I did contact the designer, but she hasn’t yet responded. Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate the time and effort. I am simply going to go back and purl the last row rather than binding off.

Most gratefully,

Marcia
