I have knit the back yoke and have been instructed to cut the yarn and then pick up stitches for the left shoulder, the instructions for which are:
RS facing, pick up and knit x stitches along the slanted section with increases at the top left side of the back yoke. Start at the corner at the back neck and pick up and knit 1 stitch in each row.
I’ve taken a photo of the back piece and drawn on it where I think I’m supposed to start picking up stitches and the direction to go in - is it correct?
Yes, looks like you have the correct edge. You won’t be working all the way down that edge though as your arrow seems to suggest, but only for the given number of stitches. The remaining length here is for the armhole.
This helpful raveler has good pics, scroll down to see the earliest 4 pictures. Pics 3 and 4 show the front and back worked and you can see roughly how far down this edge you will be picking up.
Your knitting is very nice and even @mez2113 . I’m wondering what happens next to the live sts on the needle at the bottom of your photo. If you read further in the pattern, how are those sts worked?
Salmonmac, I think those live stitches join to the front, once the front has been worked down to the underarm, then they continue in the round down to the hem.
Yes, but my question is whether the knitting in the OP’s photo is the entire back down to the end of the armhole or just the shoulder. It matters whether the sts are picked up along the entire length as shown or just a portion of the length.
Ah OK, I see. I was going by the pattern instructions and description on ravelry. There is a given number of sts to pick up at a spacing of 1 stitch per row, so the pick up is to as many rows down as the stitch count and the rest is left open. The order of working describes the back being worked to the armhole before front shoulder stitches are picked up.
