Picking up CO sts and Knit together?

Hello all!

I just recently started knitting (about a month ago) and I’m moving on from scarves and shalls to some fingerless gloves that aren’t knit in the round…doing it step by step.

here’s the patter i’m using:
http://www.ysolda.me.uk/wordpress/index.php/archives/2006/01/22/lace-up-opera-gloves/

It says in the pattern to “knit across row picking up cast on sts and knitting them together with each st.”

I’ve never seen or heard of this technique and with no pictures i’m not sure what the end result it supposed to look like.

Any one have any idea what this means? or can lead me to a website that will explain or have video?

I’m learning as i’m going along…and i’m having LOTS of fun! i dont want to abandon this project and get discouraged.

Thanks a bunch and I look forward to contributing and speaking with everyone on here!

Best,
Meli

Welcome!
I’ve never made anything like this before, so I can’t be much help, but I noticed FOUR other people asked about that on the comments part of the blog where you found the pattern! Unfortunately, I didn’t see a response… Maybe put your own comments in???

Good luck!

I’m taking this to mean that as you knit across the row, you would have your cast on edge folded up to your live stitches, then as you go to knit each one, also pick up a cast on stitch, wrap your yarn around the needle and pull it through both the cast on stitch and the current live stitch, kind of how a 3-needle bind off works but you will only have one piece with live stitches. It would join the cast on edge to the piece, making about a 3/4" band at the top of the glove. If you know crochet terms, it would be similar to joining 2 pieces with a slip stitch seam.
