Picking up and knitting

I’m working on the highlight part of the image. I just want to make sure I understand the instructions.

I need to pick up and knit 12 sts but it says “evenly”— so does that mean I just chose which ones to pick up? I’ve never done it before so once I know which ones to pick up, I’ll YouTube how to do it lol

And since it says to do it up to the fastened off, I take it I start with the bottom interior of the left ear?

Evenly means distributed across the area and not bunched at the beginning or at the end. The pick up doesn’t have to be precisely even, just approximately even.
Strat at the pink ear marker on the right side, lower blue arrow and proceed in the direction of the upper arrow to the point of the ear.
