I have just finished the body of my first big project (other than slippers and beanie hats) which is a baby blanket. The instructions are to cast off and then pick up stitches across all 4 edges to knit the binded edge. I have watched the video on how to pick up stitches, but what I can’t figure out is how to anchor the thread that you are using to pull through the existing loops to create the required number of stitches on the needle that have been picked up. Does this question make sense?
Yes, it makes sense and it’s a fair question when you’ve never done it before. You don’t have to do anything to it; just leave a tail, maybe 4-6" long and pick up the first stitch. It may be a little loose the first few rows/rounds, but won’t come out. You could also not cut the yarn after the BO and have that last loop be the first stitch and pick up along the side under it.
