I am to the point where I need to pick up stitches…according to my pattern, I need to pick up 12…but there is really space to pick up 13, maybe even 14…(obviously i added a row somewhere  ) so do I pick up the 12 and space them out? or do I pick up 13 and just count on my gusset shaping to take care of things?
Pick up stitch question on socks
I think that if there is ample space to do more picked up stitches, and you only do the amount specified in the pattern, you will end up with a bunchy gusset. You don’t want that. Pick up the # of stitches that will comfortably fit along that edge, make SURE that you pick up the exact same # on the other side, and you should be good to go. You will have a few more decrease rounds to get back to the original # of stitches to continue with the foot part of the pattern, but you’ll get there!
Thats what I was afraid of - bunchy or even worse, holey! I am thinking 1 stitch per side tops extra…so only one decreasy thing.
I went to bed thinking about this…and the count I was supposed to get at the end…and in order to get that count, I HAVE to pick up that #13 stitch…this AM I re-read the pattern and I AM. Now whats irritating is I had done it and tore it out becuase I thought i was wrong…TRUST THE PATTERN!
