Hi there,
So I’m working on a hoodie and the I’m in the first row of a section that goes from working in the round to back and forth. At the beginning of this row I cast on 6 stitches, then worked those stitches and all the way around to the end.
This is the full instruction set for the row:
“Row 1 (RS): Using Knitted CO, CO 6 sts, k5, p2, work to end, remove beginning-of-round marker, pick up and knit 6 sts from the WS of the CO sts, p1, k5 - 138 sts.”
The problem I’m having is exactly where I’m supposed to pick those stitches up (bolded). I’ve tried all sorts of different directions but I have to be doing something wrong. Nothing feels correct. If it helps at all, the pattern is a top down hoodie and this row is where the opening for the head/face begins.
Any ideas? Thanks!!

It sounds like the two sides of the hoodie are going to overlap here at the front. The picked up sts should be from the WS of the 6 cast on sts so that the end of the row (with its picked up sts) will cross in back of the beginning of the row (and its cast on sts). ]
It seems awkward to me and what I would do is reverse the overlap. Pick up the sts from the front of the cast on sts. Then you’ll probably turn and work back and continue in rows. It seems to me that it’s easier to pick up from the RS and then the yarn from the picked up sts won’t show on the RS. The direction of the overlap won’t matter unless there is something else going on later in the pattern. Check ahead and make sure.
Thank you so much! The overlap was what I wasn’t quite understanding. I will sit down this evening and try again. I really appreciate the help!
