It says to knit 14 stitches on a length of waste yarn?? Plz clarify how/what to do?? Thx

[I]To make opening for pocket:
K2, then K next 14 stitches on a length of waste yarn in a different color than project. Return these 14 stitches back to the left needle and with working yarn, knit to end of round.[/I]
Just drop the yarn you’re using start knitting with the waste yarn in those 14 stitches. I prefer to knit back across the stitches still using the waste yarn rather than slipping them, the result will be the same. You’ll then knit into the waste yarn with the yarn you dropped and continue in the round. Later you’ll remove the waste yarn and put the live stitches back on the needles for working on the pocket. If you look on youtube for knitting mittens videos you can see this method for leaving a thumb opening or for making convertible mittens. HTH
